sewing again...

Since i had some Cath Kidston patchwork squares left over from my cushion i thought i'd try make some bunting with what was left, there wasn't loads left but just enough. It was quite simple and didn't take very long to do. You can back them onto another material or use different shapes but if you're putting it up against a wall it's not necessary to back them on another material.

what you need: chosen fabric cut to size, bunting tape and a
sewing machine.
I've used CK provence rose blue mini and spray flowers white.

Before sewing lay out the tape and  work out the spacing
between each piece of fabric so that they're the same. I pinned
mine down so that they stayed in place for when it came
to sewing it all together.

Finished product. I hung it above my door and
it turned out to be the perfect length to go above it.

snow and make shift filters...

I finally got to go out in the snow today after being ill all week so i took the opportunity to take some photos. I took with me a couple of sweet wrappers with me to experiment with them acting as filters. It was cheep and easy since i had to do was hold them in front of the camera lens and no lines showed up. I think the photos came out rather well with the filters and it gives off different feels to the photos.
Here i took a yellow/orange wrapper and put it in front of the
filter and it gives it a sepia look to it without actually
editing it.
Here i took a pink wrapper and it's given a subtle pink to
the photo and isn't too bright.
Here i only covered half the lens so just the trees were filtered
the change from filter to natural is quite subtle and they
appear to blend in together in the middle where they meet.
Here the yellow/orange is quite bold in comparison to
the natural but it looks nice with how they still blend
together where they meet and it causes the trees to stand out.
Here i took both wrappers to see what they'd look like next
to each other. I overlapped them as i wanted to to make
sure there'd be no gaps and as you can see it'd made a nice
middle colour and it sections it into the three parts of the photo.

books...

I finally brought the books i've wanted for a couple of months or so now since my towns bookstore never had them in stock and they had to order them in for me but none the less i finally got them last weekend.

I just finished reading The fault in our stars and it's really good, i thought i wouldn't find the time to read it but with the amount of time i spend on buses i flew through it and it's one of those books once you pick it up you won't be able to put it down. I wasn't sure on what to expect but the story line was brilliant and easy to follow, to me there was no down side to it though at the end it i would have loved to see Hazels reaction to what Augustus had written but i recommend you to go and read it if you already haven't. I haven't got round to reading It's kind of a funny story yet but i can't wait to start it on my next bus journey tomorrow.

trip to the coast...

I went to the coast today with the family for a walk and to see all the seals beings as it was on the news a few days ago that there was around 600 seals at this beach. The scenery was so lovely and some of the seals were really close and others you could see their heads keep popping up out of the sea. Thought that i'd share a few of the many photos that i took.

New years resolutions

new years resolutions can be pain and no one seems to make them anymore or if they do the resolutions aren't always kept. normally i make one or two resolutions stick at them for a few months, stop then start them again towards the end of the year. this year i'm going to try keep them for the whole year and instead of writing them down on paper i'm going to share them with you guys so hopefully it gives me the motivation to keep at it and possibly share some of them with you.

1. eat more healthy - lots of people say things like this but with being a vegetarian i need to balance out my meals more so that i eat the foods that give me the protein and such which meat would. i love fruit and vegetables so really it shouldn't be so difficult.

2. read more - there's so many books i want to read or re-read but i don't seem to have the time. but with the amount of time i spend on buses i could easily get through the few books that i really want to read. (might make a post about that later)

3. put more effort into my sixth form work - i spend so much time procrastinating instead of actually doing any work. so i'm going to try focus more and raise my grades up so i don't fail and have to re-take year 12.

4. take more photos! - since i've started taking a level photography i seem to focus on taking photos for that rather than experimenting and just taking photos to create memories. it'd be good to start taking more for other things and maybe do a couple small photography jobs over the year.

happy new year

so i got new nail polishes so i thought i'd try them out.
Rimmel 704 sweet as sugar. It took a few coats before it became
rather opaque but it's a really nice pastel colour.

Rimmel 500 disco ball. I'd tried this before but without
another colour underneath. It only took a couple of strokes
for lots of the glitter to be applied. The two really go together
and Rimmel's products always keep well and don't
chip very easily.
